Once Again Here's Hawaii...

So the priorities for this trip were to relax after the long year we'd experienced 2009-2010 and to see real live whales in their natural environment.
Both priorities were accomplished
Below are some photos we got from the balcony (The Lanai- pronounced La-nigh') of our condo on the third floor. Fred estimated that these whales were in the deeper water probably about three to five football fields away! I will say that the way they looked thorough our amazing binoculars were what I would have loved to have captured on film. However, that would have necessitated an even better lens than I have and getting a better tripod which finally broke last year. That expense would have eaten up the trip budget. Therefore we opted to go and get the best pictures we could, but the main thing was to sit there and over and over be stunned at the power, strength, and grace of these largest of mammals! Even without binoculars we watched them in amazement.
The fact that each of us caught a full breach at two different times is miraculous.A couple told us they had been coming there for the past eleven years, going out n the whale spotting tours and only last year caught a full breach n film. There's just no way to judge when these large animals are going to burst up through the ocean from the depths like this. Enough blathering then...

This is the underside of one of the whales that breached...Fred took these shots

SPLASHDOWN!

These next shots were taken by me, perhaps a little bit closer in. Look at the boat and the people on it to gain perspective on the mammoth size of these Humpbacks... Remember to click on each photo below to see the entire shot. The program with my blog needs to be replaced...
There was a sizable pod just hanging around this whale excursion boat for a very long time, so I just shot repeatedly and finally...

And off he goes...

Caterpillar Tales

So, I noticed that my Mexican Butterfly plants outside our windows were looking a little "chewed on". Finally very early this morning this is what I found, not one of them, but at least two of them.

Look how he's stripping the leaf right off of the stem!!!

Perspective
So I believe in "catch and release"...they both went for a swim in our indoor "pool"!
(BTW, these are unedited with my new multipurpose lens that replaces my cheap kit lens that came with the camera. I love it already!!)

A Morning @ Nonna and Poppi's

So this was the most painful photo editing I have ever done. My program or my computer or maybe just me kept getting everything ready to download onto our computer and then it all would go away. Third time is the charm!!!
We had the grandbabes here for a few hours yesterday to relieve Kalie and Gracie from childcare duties while Mama and Daddy were out of town.
It was exhausting and fun and chaotic. About the way I remember my life as the mom of our three kids when they were all 5 and under!
I played around with my camera and tried to be brave and try different things and some of it actually paid off.

It was a peaceful morning. And then...

He is soooo active now!!!!

Dress up and making "music".

Belle only seemed to know one note...

THE HIGHEST AND SHRILLEST!!!

The many faces of Teddy

The many faces of Princess Belle

My favorite guy...The Beast (actually I was the Beast in this day's Beauty and the Beast.)

I know I can get this up and runnin', THERE!

Hey!!!  Whattha?!?!

Sweet girl, sweet music in our lives

WATER!!! ICE!!!!

Teddy entertaining himself and being foiled by the rubber band lock!

Boy in a blue tub...sweet!

Getting Tired...

The little welt on Teddy's forehead was from him crawling repeatedly into the guest room closet mirror doors and laughing each time. We don't need toys!!!

A lovely day and they had as much fun as we did...I think.

I got a few!!!

Well, I got a few okay shots, but no cloud action. I also have a mirror/ghost image of the moon floating around in the photos. I read up on that a long time ago and will have to reread that article! Anyway, it's midnight and I am turning in! Enjoy.

I have no moon shots to post from tonight's full moon!

So I went outside tonight with my camera and tripod to take some shots of the full moon rising through the clouds- it was amazing-looking. Of course it went under heavy cloud cover by the time I got everything situated! I may go back out now or later and try to get some shots, because within 10 minutes of going back inside it reappeared from behind the clouds!! But I'm tired...sooo professional eh?
This has happened to me so many times. We are driving home, the full moon is rising and it's spectacular. I bolt into the house gather up everything, best guess at the settings, they seem to work and then, I lose the shot!
I have insomnia pretty much every night, so I hope that I get up and take some shots of it tonight later.
